When you live next door to monsters, your definition of monster has to change. Vampires strive for the right to vote, animators will raise your late relations to clear up that missing will, and you never know which of your neighbors might turn into a wolf when the moon is full. Legally, the 'monsters' are just ordinary citizens, albeit a bit special. Practically?

Laws don't stop hate and fear. Lycanthropes who reveal their nature often find themselves mysteriously downsized - and those are the best case scenarios. In some states, it's still legal to kill them on sight. Most 'lunarly-challenged' individuals keep their lives secret in order to survive. Even vampires carefully choose which side they show to the public - and all preternaturals like to police their own.

Sometimes real monsters slip through the cracks, on both sides - when they do, people die. The trick is figuring out who's a monster, and who's just trying to live their life.
